Initiatives

St. Francis Episcopal church Vicar, John Maher, was initially trained in the Empowered Communities Framework in 2013. Since that time, John has been engaging his congregation in ABCD activities including a listening project in 2017 in Hickory Haven, a neighborhood in the Manakin Sabot community.

More recently, John has applied ABCD principles to his local church context.  In a 2021 listening project, the gifts of music and hospitality emerged as core internal gifts.  St. Francis is exploring how those gifts can be used to strengthen their own faith community, as well as how the church can use music and hospitality in becoming a stronger asset to the broader community.
